Many images of this hard time were taken. One of the most famous, from the United States, was taken by one of a group of photographers hired by the U.S. Federal government to document the impact the Depression had on people. You can view all of these images online at the U.S. Library of Congress website. This is one of my favourite images because of the emotion it evokes. Every time I look at it, I wonder what is going through her mind. She must be so worried about her children.

Module 6 Quizzes and Tests

There will be a test for Module 6 on the following days. Please note that your workbook is due when you write your test.

01 - Friday, May 2nd
02 - Monday, May 5th
03 - Friday, May 2nd
11 - Thursday, May 1st
12 - Wednesday, April 30th

Recent homework and assignments: Conscription assignment, Venn diagram for 1st and 2nd phase of industrialization, The Great Depression Business Cycle sheet, and the Review Timeline.

Please ensure that all assignments are submitted on or before the day of your test!

Immigration Questions from Monday's Class

Please answer these questions for your next class

02 Wed 16.04

03 Tues 15.04

11 Tues 15.04

1)Where did your ancestors/family come from?

2)Why did your ancestors immigrate to Canada?

3)Was the reason they immigrated to Canada a “push or pull” reason?

4)Was their decision based on economic, political, social, or environmental conditions

5)Where did your ancestors/family decide to live in Canada? Some British North American colonies were afraid of joining Confederation and being dominated by larger colonies/provinces. There was much debate of how to organize the government; some fathers of Confederation believed that a legislative union with a powerful central government was the answer. Others believed that a federal union with provincial and local governments was a better solution. Some people were afraid that the United States would try and take over all of North America with their policy of Manifest Destiny. There were numerous reasons why the British North American Colonies considered forming an independent country.

Take a look at this political cartoon of George Brown. What does the cartoon imply? How was confederation a balancing act? What is annexation?

Remember, you must be able to analyze images and documents for the final exam in June. Always look at the foreground, middleground, and background of an image and read any text that may give you a clue to answer the question.

Government Structures Assignment Due Dates

Yellow 02 Tues 18.03
Green 03 Wed 12.03
Blue 11 Thurs 20.03

Remember, you need to draw and label the structures for:

1) Royal Government
2) Royal Proclamation
3) Constitutional Act
4) Act of Union
5) Responsible Government
6) British North America Act

You must also include two pieces of information about this structure.
